Mission
At Enterprise, we create opportunity for low- and moderate-income people through fit, affordable housing and diverse, thriving communities.
Central to our mission is Enterprise’s fundamental commitment to give people living in poverty an opportunity to move up and out. We believe that these opportunities are best provided in communities with a diverse mix of affordable and market housing options, access to jobs and social supports, and a strong commitment to the environment and civic participation.mission is to see that all low-income people in the United States have the opportunity for fit and affordable housing and to move up and out of poverty into the mainstream of American life.
Strategic Priorities
Green Communities
- Launched in 2004, Green Communities® is a five-year, $555 million initiative to build 8,500 healthy, sustainable, affordable homes.
- Surpassing our initial goal, we have provided more than $615 million to build 14,500 green homes, to date.
- Green Communities aims for nothing less than a transformation in the way communities think about, design, and build affordable homes.
Preservation
Enterprise is aggressively working to preserve existing affordable housing through several vehicles, including HUD Section 202 refinancings, Year 15 disposition strategies for expiring LIHTC properties and a partnership with the National Affordable Housing Trust.
- Of the 133 LIHTC properties sold through Year 15 dispositions, nearly every project remained affordable, preserving 7,326 rental units. In addition, 298 families now own homes through a lease-purchase program sponsored by one of Enterprise's premier partners.
Supportive Housing
With proven personal and economic benefits to residents and taxpayers, service-enriched housing is a strategy to make inroads to end chronic homelessness.
- In 2008, Enterprise invested $101 million for 1,314 units of supportive housing.
- To date, Enterprise has closed more than $1.77 billion in equity, loans and grants, totaling more than 30,000 units of supportive housing.

Innovation |
Innovation and Enterprise have gone hand-in-hand since day one. To formalize the process internally, we recently created an Innovation Unit to stimulate the development and implementation of new ideas that:
. support our mission
. are generated internally or externally
History
Enterprise was born out of an innovative idea: creating a new organization for financing and supporting affordable housing in unconventional ways. Today we face equal, if not greater, challenges to ensure that all Americans have access to fit and affordable housing. More than ever, innovation is a key driver of progress and essential to finding solutions.
Recent Enterprise Innovations
