BACKGROUND: Columbia’s newest renovated residential community, Forest Ridge Apartments, will be officially reopened on July 30th at 5 p.m. during a special ceremony with Howard County Executive Ken Ullman, Enterprise Housing Corporation, the residents and state and community leaders. Forest Ridge Apartments is located in the Village of Oakland Mills in Columbia, Md. The $13.8 million rehabilitation of the former Stevens Forest Apartments preserves affordable housing for families.
Forest Ridge includes 106 garden apartments for low- and moderate-income families that also meet the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria for healthy and sustainable design and living. The community features 18 one-bedroom, 60 two-bedroom and 28 three-bedroom garden-style rental units all with updated mechanical and HVAC systems, modernized kitchens and baths and green features such as water-conserving plumbing fixtures, Energy Star appliances, energy-saving light fixtures and green label carpet throughout.
Financing for Forest Ridge was provided by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. and Enterprise Green Communities. The new community will be managed by Habitat America.
