Enterprise Holds James W. Rouse Community Service Day in Los Angeles as Part of White House United We Serve Initiative
WHAT: James W. Rouse Community Service Day to be held as part of President Obama’s United We Serve Initiative – Enterprise staff members in Los Angeles are partnering with Habitat for Humanity – Greater Los Angeles to provide much needed home renovations for the Monroy/Valadez family in Downey, Calif. Volunteers from Enterprise, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations will paint, remove mold and fix water damage and conduct other repairs to make this home livable for a dedicated mother and her three children who reside there.
Enterprise and Habitat for Humanity are strong partners in Los Angeles in their combined effort to build diverse and thriving communities. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner families.

DETAILS: The first James W. Rouse Community Service Day was held in 2000 to honor cofounder and urban planner James W. Rouse. For nearly ten years, Enterprise has carried out community service activities in the greater Baltimore area near its headquarters in Columbia, Md. Throughout the years, the effort has been expanded to include other cities. This year, the annual James W. Rouse Community Service Day will include events led by Enterprise staff from 15 of its local offices. In addition, the activities will be a part of the United We Serve initiative, President Obama’s national call to service.
During the week leading up to the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11), more than 330 Enterprise staff and other volunteers from across the country will participate in volunteer activities in their respective cities.
PHOTO/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES: Enterprise and Habitat for Humanity volunteers will be available for photo opportunities. In addition, Enterprise executives will be available for interviews.
