Enterprise Holds James W. Rouse Community Service Day in Baltimore as Part of White House United We Serve Initiative

WHAT: James W. Rouse Community Service Day to be held as part of President Obama’s United We Serve initiative – Enterprise staff members in Baltimore and Columbia, Md., are partnering with Struever Bros. Eccles and Rouse (SBER) and the Baltimore City Public Schools to provide much needed volunteer assistance at the Great Kids Farm. Middle school students and volunteers from Enterprise and SBER will provide more than 220 pairs of hands to clear brush, plant, cleanup and perform other tasks on this 33-acre urban farm located in Baltimore. Tools and supplies will be provided in part by Baltimore-based Civic Works.

Great Kids Farm is an educational and vocational organic farm owned and operated by Baltimore City Public Schools. The farm's dual mission is to teach students about the importance of environmental sustainability as well as be a direct supplier of nutritional ingredients to the schools as part of the city's plan to reform the nutritional content of cafeteria food.

WHEN: Friday, September 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Great Kids Farm at Bragg Nature Center, 6601 Baltimore Park, Baltimore, MD 21228

DETAILS: The first James W. Rouse Community Service Day was held in 2000 to honor cofounder and urban planner James W. Rouse. For nearly ten years, Enterprise has carried out community service activities in the greater Baltimore area near its headquarters in Columbia, Md. Throughout the years, the effort has been expanded to include other cities. This year, the annual James W. Rouse Community Service Day will include events led by Enterprise staff from 15 of its local offices. In addition, the activities will be a part of the United We Serve initiative, President Obama’s national call to service.

During the week leading up to the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11), more than 330 Enterprise staff and other volunteers from across the country will participate in volunteer activities in their respective cities.

PHOTO/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES: In the morning, local school children will be working along side adult volunteers and will be available for photo opportunities. In addition, Enterprise executives will be available for interviews. Members of the media may contact Tina McDaniel at 410-772-2780 for further information.
