Hood to Coast 2006
October 9, 2006 - The 25th anniversary of the world's largest relay race took place on August 24 and 25. The 2006 Hood To Coast Relay marked the 10th consecutive year that Enterprise has taken part in the 197-mile, 12-person, 24-hour relay. The race begins at Timberline Lodge on Oregon’s Mt. Hood and ends at the coastal town of Seaside. The event, which runs continuously through the night, boasted 12,000 runners from over 1,000 teams. Each runner runs a total of three 5-6-mile portions of the race.
To raise funds and awareness for affordable housing, Enterprise entered two teams, both named "Running for Shelter." The teams placed 341 and 393 out of 1,040 finishing teams. Thanks to their efforts and the generous sponsorships from financial partners, Enterprise raised over $60,000, matching the record-setting amount raised in 2005. This year's beneficiaries include Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and Hacienda Community Development Corporation in Portland, Ore. Over $360,000 has been raised over the past 10 years to benefit nonprofit organizations working to create or preserve affordable housing.
"The Hood To Coast Race was one of the best experiences of my life. The preparation got me in better shape, brought me closer to my colleagues that participated, raised money for two great causes, and I had a great time!" said Jesse Alfriend, vice president, multifamily mortage finance, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc.
